USING INTERIOR DESIGN TO CRUSH YOUR NEW YEAR’S GOALS

New Year, Fresh Start! The design of our home plays a big part in our lifestyle and a new, fresh design can be a great start to the new year, and BONUS, it can help with New Year’s goals. Design can dictate what we do in our daily lives. It can be a big part in creating emotions, habits, and inspiring action at home, including your new 2022 goals! I have a few design ideas that will help with the most common goals people set to achieve in a new year.
GOAL 1. FEELING ORGANIZED & IN CONTROL
Trying to be more organized is a common goal. People don’t like their lives disorganized; it can slow you down and can cost you money. To learn more about how clutter can cost you money please read this post. Everything should have a place in your home and this would be a great place to start. Think about using items in your space such as built-ins with storage solutions. Most people have something like this in a mudroom area. It’s a great location to have a catch-all for many items. Make sure it has hooks for purses, backpacks, or briefcases; bins for shoes; and maybe a few more small hooks for things like keys and other small accessories. You can also use storage solutions for places like basements and kid’s rooms. Keep the clutter maintained and have a collaborative approach with your family to put things back where they belong.
GOAL 2. MORE DAILY MINDFULNESS
Daily mindfulness is also a common goal and can help play a big part in your mental health. Create a space in your home that is tech-free. This will allow you and your family to be more present. What are tech-free things you like to do? Do you journal? Meditate? Pray? Maybe art is your thing, coloring, drawing. Center your space around your hobbies. Make sure your space has good natural light, it can play a big role in the way a space feels and can support and inspire the activities that take place there.

GOAL 3. INCREASE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OR EXERCISE
And now for the big one……physical activity. The best physical activity is the one you enjoy the most. Design an inspiring fitness room that you enjoy being in. What do you love to do? Walk, rowing, yoga, cardio, maybe you got a new Peloton this year for Christmas. Be strategic about your space and put the main focus on the type of workout you love to do. Keep it clean, maybe incorporate some organization……where to keep towels, resistance bands, weights, etc. Carry a color theme throughout the room to keep your mind in a peaceful place, and again, consider a room with good natural light. To help make sure you stay on track with your goals outside of your active space, be strategic about where you place your tennis shoes and active wear. Have them in plain sight to remind you to achieve those fitness goals.
New Year’s Resolutions aren’t easy. If they were, you would have already been doing them. If you get the right support from the people around you and the environment you live in, your goals can be easier to achieve. Make 2022 the year that you achieve all your goals and make it your best year yet!
