Ho Ho Home
Who Wouldn't Go

Gather ’round as we take you on a journey through the historical The Vander Jagt. Last year, during the holidays of 2022, Delight in Designs hosted the Holiday Ho Ho Home. With other local designers to help, we transformed the historic Vander Jagt residence into a winter wonderland of exquisite holiday decor. The enchanted tour, open to the public, drew in over 500 visitors, all contributing to the charitable cause of CASA of Kent County. Let’s unwrap the magic in each room and take a virtual stroll, where whimsy meets elegance and holiday cheer dances with architectural charm!

The Living Room

Step into the living room, where the vibe is pink, plush, and practically perfect. Sink into the soft embrace of a soft pink velvet couch, surrounded by accent chairs that scream, “Sit here and feel fancy!” A brunch table awaits, perfect for discussing your favorite holiday movies. The Christmas tree steals the show, bedazzled in soft pink bows and light teal poinsettias. And let’s not forget the antique mantle – it’s a twinkling dreamscape with lit garland, candles, and enough poinsettias to make you believe in Santa. This room was designed by Sara Padnos.

The Sunroom

Step into the sunroom, where a Grinnell Bros Grand Piano takes center stage, perfect for playing Christmas carols while your family sings along . A sitting area features red velvet chairs and a table with cookies for Santa. An 8-foot tall Christmas tree stands tall, trimmed with white and red poinsettias, snowflakes, music notes, and french horns. The room’s architectural charm, including a solid wood beam vaulted ceiling and brick Bachelder floors, and large arched window enhances the festive ambiance. This room was designed by Alisha Doorlag.

The Morning Room

Breakfast is served in the cutest corner of The Vander Jagt. Red and white rule the roost, with Santa, reindeer, and snowmen taking center stage on adorable dishware. The table, draped in a red and white striped tablecloth, is a festive feast for the eyes. Mr. and Mrs. Claus are holding court as a centerpiece, and red stars dangle from the ceiling like holiday confetti. The antique built-in buffet is a treasure trove of Christmas treats and decorations while three twinkling red trees stand on a side table along the mural on the wall. This room was designed by Jess Crosby.

The Dining Room

This room is different from any of the rest. The spectacular bay window in this room is a whimsical forest of trees with frosted snow, twinkle lights, and oversized bows. The gold and crystal chandelier presides over a table set for six, featuring pheasant-adorned dinnerware. The centerpiece? A mini forest that’s practically begging for a holiday feast. Cue the small mercury glass votives for the perfect touch of magic. This room was designed by Cate Ball.

The Bridal Suite

This two-room suite exudes elegance. The sitting room boasts a gray sofa that practically begs for a dramatic fainting scene, while large mirrors ensure you catch every fabulous angle of your holiday gala gown. In the bedroom, white reigns supreme with a luxurious bed embellished in a white quilt and sequin accent pillows. A silver deer on a white fur throw adds a touch of woodland glam, and a small sitting area beckons with a pink accent chair and four decorated wooden-framed Christmas trees. This room was designed by Jess Crosby and Sara Padnos.

The Kid’s Room

Hold onto your jingle bells – it’s time for the Kid’s Room! It’s a colorful explosion of holiday joy, with a bed decked out in red and green, a pint-sized Christmas tree with striped balls and Santa Claus ornaments, along with toys galore found around the room. Stack those blocks, choo-choo with the train set, and snuggle up with the teddy bear. There’s even a table set up for snacks and hot chocolate – because kids and grown-ups alike deserve a sweet treat during the most wonderful time of the year. This room was designed by Cate Ball.

The Master Bedroom

The grand finale awaits in the Master Bedroom, where the theme is ‘Blue Christmas’ – no, not the Elvis kind, the elegant kind. Picture a bed decorated with a beautiful blue and white floral quilt, a blue throw, and accent pillows that practically shimmer. Garlands with white ball ornaments and hydrangeas drape the headboard, creating a holiday dreamscape. The vanity is a winter wonderland of blue trees, and not one but two Christmas trees stand tall, with dried blue hydrangeas. It’s like walking into a snow globe of sophistication! This room was designed by Jess Crosby.

The transformation of The Vander Jagt into a festive masterpiece not only delighted visitors but also contributed to a noble cause. The Holiday Ho Ho Home is proof that good things happen when you mix creativity, holiday spirit, and a dash of architectural flair. We hope to transform it again next year and continue this new festive tradition.
